"Don't Let Someone Else's Opinion Of You Become Your Reality."
The motivational speaker, Les Brown, hit the nail on the head with this.
Letting Others into Your Mind image by Author James Boylan and Bing Image Creator
Your head is about the size of a basketball.
How can you possibly find room in there to allow another to, not only occupy your head but also to control your thoughts and feelings? My head is full enough just to keep up with daily living in this complicated world.
Many have a monster hidden inside their head.
Just what is your monster within? Uncertainty? Anger? Inability to love? Inability to talk with others? Cursing? Can’t make a decision? Fear of getting too close to anyone? Just general fear that can not be defined?
My monster had been alcoholism!
Alcoholism includes all of the above and much, much more. When in the madness, I would wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat wondering what this person or that wondered about something I had done or said.
Always worried about what others would think.
And, all the while, I figured that I was afraid of no one or nothing. I believed that if I would ever show fear while in the streets, I would have been eaten alive. Little did I know that I had no reason for fear.
Whatever your monster is, just know that it can be dealt with successfully. Is your monster your pet and so do you feed it or is it your enemy and you don’t know quite how to deal with it?
There is an answer that will work for you if only you let it.
First, let’s see what’s what with an answer for you. The opposite of fear is not courage or bravery. Not guts or anything like it. The opposite of fear is Faith. Yes! No matter how big your problem is, your Higher Power is bigger! This is HUGE news!
AA introduced me to the study of spirituality.
And learning about my own spirituality has made me happy, joyous, and free. I am happy to know that, when problems arise, I can now make the proper decisions and carry on with life. I am joyous that I now know that the right thing will happen if I only humbly ask God for assistance and then let Him.
And this is all because I am now free from being under the influence of any mind-altering substances.
The very successful AA 12 Steps for Recovery can be used by anyone, alcoholic or not because only the 1st half of the 1st Step even mentions alcohol. The other 11 1/2 Steps are all about our thinking. Change your thinking, change your life.
The AA 3rd Step says “Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.”
I choose to use the shortened version of the 3rd Step, simply saying “God, help me,” and going on with my business. It has worked very well for me for 48 years now and it can work for you, too, if you let it!
As soon as I began using this shortened version of the 3rd Step, my life became much more manageable.
I say “God, help me,” get out of His way, and let Him.
And He does. It hasn’t failed me yet. I don’t always like the way that it turns out. Oh, why? Because I didn’t think of it or it is different than I thought that I would have handled it. The RIGHT thing always happens, though, after I ask God for help.
Thank you, God!
